Case Study: Custom Upholstered Bed, Wall Panels & Foyer Settee

Designer: Heather Garrett Interiors
Manufacturer: Patrona Studio
Scope: Primary Bedroom Custom Bed & Wall Panels, Foyer Custom Settee
Location: Private Luxury Residence

Project Overview

Patrona Studio collaborated with nationally recognized designer Heather Garrett Designs to fabricate a suite of custom upholstered pieces for a large-scale luxury residential project. The scope included a fully integrated custom upholstered bed and upholstered wall panels for the primary bedroom, as well as a bespoke curved settee designed specifically for the home’s foyer.

This project required precision engineering, material expertise, and close coordination between designer, manufacturer, and installer to ensure the final result matched the original design intent—without compromise.

The Design Challenge

Heather Garrett’s vision called for architectural-scale upholstery that felt soft, tailored, and residential while functioning as permanent, built-in elements of the home. The primary bedroom design featured:

  • Floor-to-headboard upholstered wall panels

  • A custom king headboard integrated into the wall system

  • Upholstered bed rails engineered to align seamlessly with wall panels

  • Vertical velvet tufting with uninterrupted nap direction to eliminate visible seams

In the foyer, the designer specified a custom curved settee with a tight back, tufted seat, satin welting, and oversized box pleats—requiring advanced pattern-making and upholstery techniques to maintain symmetry along the curve.

Patrona Studio’s Approach

From the earliest sketches, Patrona Studio worked directly with Heather Garrett to translate conceptual drawings into build-ready specifications. Our team provided:

  • Shop drawings and elevation reviews to validate proportions and dimensions

  • Upholstery engineering to support curved forms and integrated installation

  • Material guidance for performance velvet selection and nap direction

  • Installation planning for Star Hanger Systems, power integration, and site conditions

For the primary bedroom, Patrona engineered the wall panels and headboard to install as a cohesive system using Star Hanger System , allowing for precise alignment and long-term serviceability. Vertical tufting was executed with Schumacher Rocky Performance Velvet, upholstered with the nap running vertically to preserve a clean, uninterrupted appearance across panels.

The foyer settee required custom pattern development to support the subtle inward curve, tight back upholstery, and decorative satin detailing—all while maintaining durability for an entry space.

The Result

The finished installation delivered a highly tailored, architectural interior that reflects Heather Garrett’s signature aesthetic while showcasing Patrona Studio’s manufacturing expertise.

  • The primary bedroom reads as a fully integrated upholstered environment, not a collection of parts

  • The custom bed and wall panels create visual continuity and acoustic softness

  • The foyer settee provides a sculptural focal point with luxury-level craftsmanship

Each piece was fabricated to exact specifications and installed to align seamlessly with surrounding architectural details.
